 Southend-on-Sea Lifeboat Station

There are 238 Lifeboat Stations strategically placed around the coast of the UK and the Republic of Ireland and in 2016 the Southend on Sea Lifeboat Station was the busiest coastal station in the United Kingdom with 148 launches, 100 persons rescued and 7 lived saved. 53 of these rescues were carried out in the dark.

There are 37 volunteers in the crew as well as launchers and helpers.

The Lifeboat Station at the end of the Pier has both a D-Class Lifeboat and an Atlantic 85

On the shore end of the Pier there is a Lifeboat Station which was completed in December 2012. This houses a D-Class Lifeboat, a Hovercraft and a launching tractor.

During 2015 modifications were made to the Lifeboat Station at the end of the Pier to accommodate the new Atlantic 85 lifeboat which arrived in January 2016

Her design allows room for four crew members, more survivors and more kit than the previous Atlantic 75. It is also faster and has a max. speed of 35 knots

On the 18th June 2016 a double naming ceremony was held for the Atlantic 85 Julia & Angus Wright and a new D class lifeboat William Henderson

The Lifeboat Shop is at the end of the Pier and staffed by volunteers every day of the year except Xmas Day

It stocks a vast range of gifts and all profits go towards keeping the Lifeboats afloat to save lives
